#301 - June 2007 Rain chains aren’t well known in this part of the world. But in Japan, they’ve been used for hundreds of years to carry water off the roofs of buildings. And, as the Photo makes clear, they’re a much more elegant means of transmitting water from the gutter to the ground than conventional downspouts. What the photo left does not show however, is the melodic sound that the water makes as it runs down the chain, and these unique features are treasured as much for the auditory experience as the visual. |
